Frequently Asked Questions
Class F fly ash comes from anthracite or bituminous coal combustion and has a low CaO content (≤ 8%). It is purely pozzolanic — it requires water and calcium hydroxide from cement hydration to react. Class C fly ash (from sub-bituminous/lignite coal, CaO 15–30%) has self-cementing properties in addition to pozzolanic activity. Class F is the most widely traded grade internationally and is preferred for durability-critical applications such as marine structures and sulfate-exposed concrete.
Typically 15–30% replacement by weight of total cementitious material for most structural concrete. Up to 40–50% is used in mass concrete (dams, large foundations) where heat-of-hydration reduction is the priority. Higher replacement slows early strength gain — mix design and curing should be adjusted accordingly, with a superplasticizer generally recommended above 25%.
LOI (Loss on Ignition) measures the unburned carbon content. High LOI causes variability in water demand, air-entrainment performance and color consistency. ASTM C618 sets a maximum of 6% for Class F; our standard specification is ≤ 5%, ensuring consistent performance in admixture-sensitive and architectural concrete.
1 metric ton for bagged orders (25 kg bags or jumbo bags), typically as a full container load. For bulk vessel loading, minimum 500 MT. Trial container orders are accepted for new buyers conducting mix-design qualification.
Yes. Class F fly ash at 20–30% replacement is highly effective at suppressing ASR — the low calcium and high silica content dilutes alkali concentration. This makes Class F a preferred mitigation strategy for projects using alkali-reactive aggregates, particularly roads, dam concrete and long-life infrastructure.
Yes. SGS, BV, CCIC or buyer-appointed inspection can be arranged before loading. Costs are passed through at actuals, and inspection reports are provided with the shipment documents.
Commercial Invoice, Packing List, Bill of Lading, Certificate of Analysis (COA), Mill Test Certificate (MTC), Certificate of Origin (CO / Form A / Form E) and MSDS. Fumigation and third-party inspection reports are provided per destination requirements.
